Let's Walk 'n' Talk - Episode 6 - Conflict Management

/ by Sean Bonnes

Conflict is part of our lives each day. Situations will arise where someone else's concerns will be different to ours. We are not speaking here about something dangerous and destructive, rather differences of opinions that can be handled constructively to achieve an outcome that is good for all parties. Some are better than others at handling conflict.

Rather than falling into our habitual way of dealing with conflict, having time to think, and then choosing a conflict mode that suits the situation and the other person’s style, is a massive help in arriving at a better, more productive and constructive outcome.

Knowing that you have choices in a conflict, and then exercising the right choice, enable you to take control in a conflict situation, to everyone's advantage. It may sound like a cliche, but win-win is usually the best outcome.

Please feel free to reach out to me should. you wish to discuss this interesting topic and share experiences and tools that have helped you or could help you.

Let's Walk 'n' Talk - Episode 5 - Situational Leadership

/ by Sean Bonnes

At its core, leadership is essentially a shared influence process, working with your people, empowering them to accomplish their goals and the goals of the organisation.

The situational leadership model is very helpful to leaders and their teams in getting the job done and obtaining results. Situational leadership is something you do with people, not too them and demonstrates how essential it is for a leader to understand where her/his people are in terms of their competence in accomplishing a certain task and their attitude, commitment and feelings.

The beauty of this tool is in its simplicity and ease of implementation. Once you get it, you've got it! And it then simply takes a little bit of practice to master. The result are spectacular and  you will see an immediate impact on the energy, creativity and resourcefulness of your team.

If you'd like to understand the model better or learn about how it could help you in being more effective as a leader, please don't hesitate to reach out to me for a conversation. I'd love to hear from you. Let's speak soon.

Let's Walk 'n' Talk - Episode 4 - Recruitment/CARD

/ by Sean Bonnes

As a successful leader, you bring enormous value to your organization by recruiting and developing new people in your team. This is a weighty responsibility, not to be taken lightly and we cannot afford to rely on a "belly feeling" in our selection process as once may have been common.

The recruitment area is also sensitive in terms of discrimination and processes are required to remove bias. During the recruitment process we need to establish which candidate is the best cultural and competence fit for the organization and role and cannot afford to compromise. Mistakes can be extremely costly and are often way in excess of the budgeted annual salary for the open position, not to mention other collateral damage.

As a new or experienced leader, being trained in effective recruiting is not an option. If you would like more information I would be delighted to hear from you and would welcome the opportunity to assist you and your fellow leaders in supporting your organizations efforts to attract and retain great talent.
